People prefer to opt for private browsing for various reasons, such as, accessing a second account on Facebook, not wanting to leave their passwords and cookies at a certin website, or even for those who want to view some ‘questionable’ websites (you know what we are referring to!).
In this guide, we cover how to access private browsing in any web browser on Windows, Mac, iOS (i.e. iPad, iPhone) and Android (where applicable):

How to access Incognito Mode in Google Chrome
As we have mentioned before, Google Chrome is currently the most popular web browser on the internet today. Google Chrome’s private browsing style is referred to as
Incognito Mode.
Windows
There are a two ways you can conjure up the incognito web browser!
On Windows desktop, right click the Google Chrome icon on your desktop (or in your Start Menu) and select
New Incognito Window from the drop down list.
Alternatively, in the Google Chrome web browser itself, select the three dot menu and click
New Incognito Window. You can simply enter in the keyboard type in Ctrl + Shift + N which opens the new window automatically.
You are now in incognito mode on Google Chrome! You can tell this is the incognito mode because of the dark hate and glasses icon that appears on the top left. Also the tab appears black so we can easily differentiate between the normal web browser interface.
Mac
There are a few ways you can open InPrivate Browsing.
1. Right click the Google Chrome icon on the taskbar and select New Incognito Window from the drop down menu.
2. In the Google Chrome web browser, click on three dot menu and select
New Incognito Window.
Or, in the browser, navigate to the
File menu and click
New Incognito Window.
Either way you will open up incognito mode!
Android
On your Android, navigate to the Google Chrome web browser app.
In the app, select the 3 dots (menu) on the top right hand side.
Select
New icognito tab from the drop down menu.
You are advised you have gone incognito!
iOS (i.e. iPhone, iPad)
On an iOS device, such as an iPad (for our example). Open Google Chrome.
In a Google Chrome web browser, select the three dots.
Select
New Incognito* Tab.
Done! You’ve gone incognito* mode!
How to access private browsing in Safari
Mac
Open up the Safari web browser.
Navigate to File and Select New Private Window from the drop down menu. Alternatively, you enter the up arrow key + Command + N.
You are now in an private Window on Safari.
iOS
Navigate to the Safari web browser.
In the Safari browser app, press the two overlapping squares icon.
Select
Private.
Press
Done.
You are now in
Private Browsing mode.
How to access private browsing mode in Mozilla Firefox
Windows
There are a three ways you can access private browsing mode in Mozilla Firefox.
1. Navigate to the icon on your Windows desktop i.e. via the start menu or from your taskbar. Right click it. In the drop down menu, select
New Private Window.
2. In the Mozilla Firefox web browser itself, select the three line menu and click
New Private Window.
You can simply enter in the keyboard
Ctrl + Shift + P which opens the new window automatically.
3. In the Mozilla Firefox web browser, type in Alt + F to access the hidden File menu and click New Private Window from the drop down.
You have now opened New Private Window! It is obvious that you are in private browsing mode as the icon looks like one you would wear to a masque ball and the interface is black.
Mac
There are three ways you can open a private web browser in Firefox.
1. Right click the Firefox icon in your taskbar and select New Private window from the drop down menu.
2. In the Mozilla Firefox web browser, click on three horizontal line menu and select
New Private Window.
Or, in the browser, navigate to the
File menu and click
New Private Window. Alternatively, you can type in the up arrow + CMD + P for a Private window to open automatically while in the web browser.
You are now in private browsing mode!
Android
On your Android, navigate to the Firefox Mozilla web browser app.
Select the 3 dots (menu) on the top right hand side.
Select
New Private Tab from the drop down menu.
You are now in a private tab on Firefox.
iOS (i.e. iPhone, iPad)
On an iOS device, such as an iPad (for our example), navigate to the Firefox web browser.
In the web browser itself, select the white mask icon.
You are now in private browsing mode on Firefox Mozilla.
How to access private browsing in Opera
Windows
There are a three ways you can access private browsing mode in Opera.
1. Navigate to the icon on your Windows desktop i.e. via the start menu or from your taskbar. Right click it. In the drop down menu, select
New Private Window.
2. In the Opera web browser, select the
Opera icon or type in
Alt + F on the top left hand side and click on New Private Window in the drop down menu.
You have now opened a New Private Window in Opera! It is obvious that you are in private browsing mode as the icon has the inconspicious look with their black hat and glasses. The search or web address bar is also black. Oh and lastly, it says ‘Private browsing’.
Mac
In the Opera web browser, Navigate to File and select
New Private Window.
Instead, you can type in the up arrow key + CMD + N for a new private window to automatically pop open.
You will open up incognito mode!
Android
On your Android, navigate to the
Opera app.
Click the multiple square icon on the bottom.
Select
Private.
You are now in a Private window. Oo scary ghost! Click the plus icon to open a new private browsing tab.
It will have a black interface for private browsing now.
iOS (i.e. iPhone, iPad)
On an iOS device, such as an iPad (for our example), open the Opera web browser.
Select the Opera menu icon.
From the drop down menu, select
New Private Tab.
You are now in a private browsing tab for the Opera web browser.
How to access InPrivate Window in Microsoft Edge
Windows
There are two ways you can access NewInPrivate mode on Microsoft Edge:
1. Navigate to the icon on your Windows desktop i.e. via the Start Menu or from your taskbar. Right click it. In the drop down menu, select
New InPrivate Window.
2. In the Edge web browser, select the 3 horizontal dots on the top right hand side of the web browser and select
New InPrivate Window from the drop down menu.
3. You are now in an InPrivate Window for Microsoft Edge.
Android
On your Android, navigate to Microsoft Edge app.
In the web browser app, select the 3 horizontal dots.
Select
New InPrivate Tab from the drop down menu.
We are in private browsing mode!
How to access InPrivate Browsing in Internet Explorer
Windows
1. Navigate to the icon on your Windows desktop i.e. via the Start Menu or from your taskbar. Right click it. In the drop down menu, select
Start InPrivate Browsing.
2. In the Internet Explorer web browser, type in
Alt + T and in the
Tools menu select InPrivate Browsing. To open the private window directly simply enter in
Ctrl + Shift + P.
You are now in InPrivate Browsing window for Internet Explorer!
It is apparent that every browser has a very similar method in order to access the private browsing or incognito mode on it.
